Canada Yew Association Membership
All CYA members are required to formally sign on, agreeing to abide by the PC&I. Industrial members agree to harvesting methods, and/or to accept only biomass or extract derived from sustainable harvesting operations for further value-added processing.
The term "biologically sustainable harvesting" refers to a harvesting method in which only a moderate amount of foliage (biomass) is removed from a Canada yew plant. If clipped prudently, regrowth of the pruned shoots is sufficient to allow the same amount of foliage to be reharvested from the same plant within a reasonable period of time (less than 5 years).
Canada Yew Association Membership Commitment
The Canadian Yew Association (CYA) is an open organization in which membership is voluntary and based on adherence to the goals and priorities of the working group. The guiding objective of the CYA is to develop an industry maximizing benefits to Canadians based on the sustainable utilization of Taxus canadensis (ground hemlock or Canada yew) to produce paclitaxel and other taxanes for use by the pharmaceutical industry.
